Apple Pie Sangria

Tis the season for holiday gatherings, and let's face it, sometimes a little (or a lot) of alcohol to cope with all of the hustle and bustle!  This sangria recipe is super easy and borderline dangerous when it comes to taste and drinkability (just ask the moms in my playgroup!)

Yes, we've had wine during a playgroup.  The kids played nice, the moms chatted, life was great.  You're welcome to join the Cool Kids anytime!

You'll want a decent sized pitcher for this mix and optimally time to soak some fruit for a bit, but being that the first time I was making this, I was driving to a child's play group, I didn't really feel like commuting at 10 AM with an open container, so you can certainly add fruit at time of service too!

  • 1 honeycrisp apple (or other firm, tart apple), chopped
  • 1 pear, chopped
  • 1 orange sliced for juice squeezing, or cute garnish
  • 1 bottle of chilled Pino Grigio
  • 1 cup vanilla vodka (or plain is fine too if that's what you've got on hand)
  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp apple pie spice
Chop your fruit and set aside.  You can soak for a few hours ahead of time in your mix of wine, vodka and juice if you've got the time.  At time of service, mix together your liquids, fruit, sugar and apple pie spice until the sugar is well dissolved.  The apple pie spice doesn't exactly dissolve, but that's OK.  Just stir before serving your second round!  Pour into your glass of choice and serve over ice.

Super yummy version of Mommy's Apple Juice!
