Five Years Ago

Five years ago today, I was 25-years old
had super blond hair that hung past my shoulders
my mind was still reeling over Charlie's message "Not Penny's Boat"
had a fresh French manicure on my hands
and was about to get married.

On one hand, I can't believe it's been five years already.  And then, I can't believe it's only been five years.

I realized that would take FAR too long for one love-story post, so it will come in a series, and obviously not in order because today I'm starting at the wedding.  Nate and I dated for a year before we got engaged, and then were engaged for almost a year after that.

We were married in an Episcopal church that was down the street from our apartment.  Yes, we lived in sin.  The ceremony went by in kind of a blur for me.  I remember smiling a lot and thinking after I heard "what God has joined together in holy matrimony let no man put asunder" - GOOD.  It's done.  Now we can relax and enjoy the day.

Our first kiss as man and wife.  And boy, was there a lot of kissing that day!  I will never again be encouraged by so many family and friends to make-up in public!  Our parents even got in on the action at the reception.  No joke.  My parents, glasses off, up on chairs - way too much love for me, thank you very much!
Following the ceremony, we took a party bus to our favorite bar at the time, Kip's Irish Pub.  It was fitting because though I am not Irish, my maiden name was: Kipp.  The ring you see on my right hand is my "other" wedding ring.  It was blessed at the same time and matches Nate's wedding ring.  I wear it in the summertime mostly when we're swimming, boating.  Any easier ring to replace rather than the one with all the diamonds!

Looking back at these pictures, we look so young, and skinny, and well-rested.  And so happy, and so in love, and yes, a little bit clueless.

It's a good reminder to me: strive to keep more of these moments as the years go on, instead of less.  I'd be lying if I said every moment since then has been perfect, and better than the last, but they have been the moments that make up my life. Every tear, word, laugh and kiss has made up our home and family.

I wouldn't trade that for anything.
